Frozen Pipe Issues

The deep freeze is behind us but the sub-zero temperatures are still causing problems. Frozen pipes are bursting and emergency responders are scrambling to fix them. The Asheville Fire Department has responded to over 50 locations in the past 48 hours.

The sprinkler system burst at a building on Sardis Road around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.  A woman working at a neighboring business discovered the problem. She says she heard water leaking and within a few minutes the sprinkler system was spraying uncontrollably.

The Asheville Fire Department says they've responded to almost 40% more calls then normal Wednesday due to broken pipes. The department says if you suspect you have a pipe that is still frozen, call a plumber to prevent a big mess from happening.

The Red Cross says they have gotten dozens of calls about people displaced from their homes because of broken pipes. They are assisting those that need help.
