Teacher Pay Raise Proposal
The governor proposes plans to pay starting school teachers more money. Governor Pat McCrory announced a strategy to make the state's starting salaries among the highest in the southeast. The plan is to boost those salaries to $35,000 over the next two years. Supporters say it makes North Carolina nationally competitive.
But TC Roberson English teacher Lindsay Furst says the plan doesn't begin to address the veteran educators who are leaving our schools.
"It doesn't do anything to stem the bleeding of experienced teachers that are leaving. We need them," said Furst.
According to Aim Higher NC, Furst is among the vast majority who are not getting a raise. That group is fighting to get all teacher salaries up to the national average.
