Icy Road Dangers
The message tonight from both the Highway Patrol and NCDOT crews is stay off the roads if you can. Right now, they're working overtime to keep roads as safe as possible.
Each department is working 24 hours plowing roads, spreading salt and sand. They're finally getting a chance tonight to also clear out the secondary roads.
They want drivers to stay off the road. Just because the snow may be gone, the slush and water poses some serious risks. Crews in downtown Asheville are doing their best to keep roads safe. But they're hitting a major roadblock. City crews can't plow roads that are obstructed. So if you park on the street, you may find yourself snowed in.
Crews also warning people about another hidden danger. During freezing temperatures the water and slush turns into black ice. They advise people to drive with as much caution as they would in a snowstorm.
