Barred From Business
A Buncombe County man accused of taking millions of dollars for a restored classic car but not delivering can no longer do business.
State Attorney General Roy Cooper barred Bob McElreath and his multiple companies from operating in North Carolina. McElreath was accused of taking more than $2 million from people wanting to buy a restored Trans-Am vehicles. Other customers say they asked him to restore their classic cars and ended up with thousands of dollars worth of missing parts instead.
A judge ordered McElreath to pay over $840,000 in refunds and over $28 million in civil penalties. McElreath is still wanted on 26 felony charges in Buncombe County.
Officials believe McElreath has fled the state to avoid arrest. One victim tells News 13 justice won't be served until McElreath is behind bars.
