Death Investigation Update
The state continues to investigate the death of a woman at an adult care home in Buncombe County.
77-year-old Rosalie Catt was found dead at Angel House family care homes in Asheville in January.
Catt is believed to have died from hypothermia.
Cathie Beatty oversees adult care homes in Buncombe County.
Beatty says they had received 10 complaints about Angel House in the past two years.
Beatty says despite those complaints, angel house had a 4 star rating and she is surprised to hear a death had occurred there.
Cathie Beatty, Buncombe County Department of Health & Human Services, "its always hard to hear there has been a systems failure and someone has died. What we try to do is be on top of that. Shore up any practices that need to be corrected, monitor to make sure that doesn't happen again."
Beatty says under state law, adult care homes like angel house require at least one staff member to be at the home at night, but laws don't require the staff member to be awake.
Beatty says laws also require doors to be locked and alarms to be installed on them.
She says the county will wait until the state completes it's investigation before they decide what action, if any, will be taken against Angel House.
