Asheville City Storm Response

City departments are now implementing plans set in place days ago to respond to the snow storm entering the region.  Fire, police, public works and the communication and public engagement team are coordinating operations and communication through the citys Emergency Operations Center (EOC).  The EOC allows for seamless planning and well coordinated cross departmental operations.

Public works crews began yesterday checking and treating roads as necessary.  Crews will continue to provide 24-hour service.  Currently 22 vehicles are engaged in plowing, salting and sanding main corridors.  Residents are urged to limit travel.

Due to deteriorating road conditions, Asheville Redefines Transit (ART) buses are beginning the process of suspending service.  Half hour routes are doing their last loop and the last loop for the hour buses is 11 am. Visit www.ashevilletransit.com or call 253-5691 for updated transit information.

In the event of an emergency, citizens are urged to call 9-1-1. Citizens who are in need of prescription medications or medical supplies and services but are unable to leave their homes due to hazardous roadway conditions may call 252-1110 for assistance.  Information regarding shelters will be released upon shelter openings.  Citizens are advised to keep informed by monitoring local media which will post any shelter openings, locations and other valuable information based upon updated press releases from the City of Asheville.
