Buncombe Co. Fire Chiefs Honored
Two Buncombe County Fire Chiefs received the prestigious "Chief of the Year" awards Saturday night.
Chief Scott Burnette of Asheville and Chief Jeff Justice of Reems Creek Volunteer were honored at the North Carolina Association of Fire Chiefs mid-winter conference.
Each year the association awards a career and volunteer fire chief. The chiefs are nominated by their peers and then a selection committee reviews each nominee. Things like fire service, education, and community involvement are considered by the committee.
Chief Burnette and Chief Justice had no idea they were going to be receiving this award. They tell News 13 they are humbled, but owe their success to Buncombe County, Asheville City leaders and the firefighters they work with.
