Winter Storm Plan

Areas south of Asheville are preparing to be hit hard by this winter weather event. Emergency management has spent the last 48 hours notifying county agencies and law enforcement about the impending weather. Officials are advising them to have a plan in place.

Monday's snow showers didn't turn the roads in Hendersonville white, it just left them wet. But emergency management fear in the coming hours a different scenario will likely play out.

Ground temperatures stayed warm, but with cold air moving in Monday night and no sunshine, any snow that falls will probably stick. NCDOT crews tried to get ahead of the winter storm, but some rain halted their efforts. Starting Monday night, crews in Henderson County will begin 12 hour shifts.

NCDOT has contacted contract workers in case they need assistance clearing the roads. A little further to the south, NCDOT officials in Rutherford County have also done the same. They both say they're being proactive and will react according to mother nature's course.
