Work begins to stabilize banks of Foster Creek

Officials said Foster Creek is an area where the stream banks are steep and high, causing tons of sediment to fall into the stream each year.

Crews will also plant trees and shrubs to help stabilize the banks.

"That's really the most important part of a stream restoration, it's the plants. That's what we're doing today. There are about 15 volunteers planting along the stream bank, and, by the time we're done, there will be about 5,000 plants installed in the stream bank," Mills River Partnership executive director Maria Wise said.
