Ginger Frank opened Asheville's first popcorn shop in 2014. Now, just a few years later, the handcrafted treat has been nominated for the USA Today Ten Best contest in the category of Food & Drink!

The Asheville-based Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn, pops their corn with simple, natural ingredients and bold flavor combinations, like cotton candy, garlic parmesan, gingerbread, jalapeno cheddar and Thai spice.

"The fact that we don't have any artificial ingredients and that we make it in small batches and pack it in small batches really makes a difference in the flavor of it," Frank said. "And it's just kind of exploded."

Now, Poppy has been nominated with 20 other small businesses from across the country to take the title as the best of the best.

Poppy, just celebrating it’s 3rd year in business, is set to open a production facility and it’s 2nd retail location in downtown Black Mountain by the end of this month. Both the Asheville and North Carolina community has been instrumental in Poppy’s growth and their popcorn is now carried by retailers all across the country. But the only place to buy it right from the kitchen is right here in Asheville.

Voting ends on October 23, 2017.
