Neighborhood Eats: Burrito Bros

This week's Neighborhood Eats took us to downtown Marion where two brothers are making a name for themselves by cooking authentic Mexican dishes.

Burrito Bros is a true family affair with the Rodriguez brothers at the helm, whipping up dishes they grew up eating.

"Everything is from scratch," co-owner Daniel Rodriquez said. "Every order is grilled, homemade tortillas -- it's a good combination."

"We started off small. We started off with a food truck, just me and my brother one day, and it kind of started off as a hobby," Daniel explained.

That hobby has turned into an all-out profession in just weeks, which is a testament to their popularity.

"It was always crowded. You'd drive by and say, 'I'll just get it on the way back,' and there was always a line," customer Tami Newman recalled of the Burrito Bros food truck.

That's when Daniel and brother Lee Roy took the leap last May and opened a store front along Main Street. Now, many of those food truck customers are restaurant patrons.

"We come here at least three times a week," Newman said.

The brothers say Burrito Bros' menu is inspired by their mom's cooking, who owned a restaurant back in the early 2000s.

"I've been working the kitchen since I was in sixth grade and kind of just grew up in the kitchen," Lee Roy said. "And then, when she closed down, it stuck with me. I didn't want those recipes to die."

Thanks to her sons, those recipes won't die, but getting them right has been tricky since she doesn't use measuring cups.

"She does, like, pinches and stuff like that. So, it was kind of hard to learn everything when she was like, 'Oh, it's just a little pinch of this, little pinch of that'," Daniel explained.

The brothers are Marion natives and say they hope the restaurant is just another reason to visit downtown.

"Since we've been here, we've actually noticed more people on Main Street walking around," Lee Roy said.

"It's very hip. It's not something we had in downtown. So, we appreciate that it's really close to us," customer Chelsi Poteat said.

Burrito Bros is located at 9 N. Main Street in Marion. They're open Tuesday-Saturday, from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.
