A favorite lunch spot on Canton, North Carolina, is thriving despite having almost no online presence or even signage at their unconventional location.

Smokey's Pizza, Pasta and Grill is a hidden gem inside the BP gas station just off Interstate 40.

"Who would think the best food in Haywood County would be in a service station?" customer Teddy Haynes said.

Locals said you have to be "in the know" to find this popular lunch spot. In fact, some customers voiced concern over Smokey's feature on Neighborhood Eats.

"We have a lot of customers who take pride -- 'We know where to go to lunch, and you don't'," owner Amish Patel explained.

The Patel family opened the restaurant in the back of the Canton BP five years ago, with son Amish at the helm.

Amish said Smokey's low profile isn't by accident, explaining that he wants to just focus on the food and the customers.

"We'll save the fancy, boujee stuff for downtown, but we're going back to basics here," he said.

Patel described the menu at Smokey's as fast, casual Italian-American and includes pizza, pasta, and calzones.

"We make our own burgers in house. We make our own soups, salad dressing, but we also make our pizza dough, the sauces," he said.

Customers say not only is the food delicious, but the prices are fair and consistent.

"It's always busy and one of the main reasons is the price," Haynes said. "They haven't increased the price since they've been here."

"This isn't rocket science," Patel added. "I just have a good product and fair price, massive portions, a little bit of off-key singing by me, yours truly, and you're going to succeed."

Smokey's Pizza, Pasta and Grill is located inside the BP gas station (Smokey Mountain Truck and Auto Center) at 721 Champion Drive in Canton. They're open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
