Neighborhood Eats: The Shak
Neighborhood Eats took a trip to "small town friendly" Rutherford County this week for a southern staple -- barbecue.
The Shak in Forest City has become a destination spot in the county for food and entertainment.
"A lot of the preparation and then the proper cooking and the seasoning and everything," customer Johnnie Adkins said of the food.
The Shak smokes all of their barbecue using hickory and offers several sauce options, including Alabama, mustard-based, vinegar, and a special recipe they call "shine sauce."
"We have our signature sauce that you get no where but The Shak because it's a homemade sauce," General Manager Amy Collins explained. "All of our signature sauce is homemade."
While customers say the food is top notch, Collins says the weekend performances they host help fill a void in the county.
"When you're looking for something to do in Rutherford County as an adult, it's hard to find," Collins said.
Collins said there's never a cover charge for the Friday and Saturday night shows. "You just come in and dine with us, and it's entertainment," she said.
"I've lived here all my life and it's nice to see that there's more and more restaurants coming to Forest City, for example," customer Ben Collins said. "There used not to be as many places to eat around here."
The Shak is located at 2270 US Highway 74A Bypass in Forest City. Check their Facebook page for hours of operation and announcements on weekend performances.
