New ToothBus rolls out dental health to local kids
ASHEVILLE -- A new ToothBus is on the road in the mountains which, oddly enough, comes with a lot of history.
"We've been rolling buses around the mountains for about 20 years now, taking care of kids in these counties," ToothBus dentist Dr. Katherine Jowers said.
The latest ToothBus at Mission Children's Hospital offers state-of-the-art equipment, including panoramic X-rays.
Images on the screen are as useful for education as restorative care, which is often completed in the parking lots at public schools.
"From my experience, it's actually helped me out," Lisa Ellis said, mother of 8-year-old Logan Ellis. "With a lack of transportation -- them coming to the school and doing it -- I don't have to take off and ask people for a ride."
They also make sure kids like Logan leave with healthy teeth, regardless of ability to pay.
