Smart rooms add security and comfort at McDowell Hospital
MARION, N.C. (WLOS) —
Dr. Margaret Sullivan checks on new mom Lindsey Buchanan and son, Conner, at McDowell Hospital.
But, the process isn't like it once was.
Getting in to the labor and delivery area isn't easy. You need a name badge just to get through the doors. In the event you don't have one, it takes a nurse at one of the stations to buzz you in. Then, you must literally get the green light at the patient's door.
"This smart room technology gives us an extra layer of safety that is kind of a new thing for the Mission Health system," said Sullivan, an OB/GYN physician.
Buchanan added, "I really like the fact that the nurses, when they come in to the room, it shows you who they are on your TV. It just makes you feel comfortable."
"When they feel safe, they are going to be more relaxed and not as stressed out during labor," Sullivan explained.
The Smart Room technology also offers educational opportunities.
Plus, there are entertainment features, hopefully, making the birthing experience less stressful and more secure than ever.
