16-year-old charged in east Asheville shooting

A 16-year-old faces several charges related to a shooting at an east Asheville apartment complex.

Asheville police said it happened around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at River Ridge Apartments off Fairview Road.

Police said the victim took himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

The teen is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill and inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm in the city, possession of a handgun, and possession of a controlled substance.
