One man is hospitalized and another has been charged after a man was shot in Brevard late Thursday night.

Law enforcement says the person charged in the incident is in custody. His name is being withheld until additional investigation is complete, authorities said Friday.

Police responded to Burrell Mountain Road in Brevard around 11 p.m. Thursday.

Brevard Police Chief Phil Harris told our News 13 photographer on scene they responded after several 911 callers reported hearing arguing, then around 4-10 gunshots.

The man who was shot has not yet been identified, and is expected to recover.

Officers responding to the scene found a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop disclosed that a shooting victim was a passenger in the vehicle.

The victim, a Brevard resident in his mid 20’s, was shot in the right lower abdomen and was transported to a local hospital.

Chief Harris says a number of people were on scene that saw the incident unfold, so they are working with witnesses to figure out exactly what happened.
