About 500 WNC residents were still without power Friday night, down from 35,000 in the late afternoon.

The damage seems to be concentrated mostly in Buncombe and Henderson, with Black Mountain, Montreat, Fairview and Fletcher all affected.

Susan Brady, owner of The Garage on 25, was working on web advertisement for the business when the power went out.

"We had been working on it all afternoon and wordsmithing it and picking out the pictures all afternoon, and, when the power went out, that all just crashed," Brady said.

Duke Energy told News 13 at around 5:30 p.m. that it still did not know cause of all the outages yet. It was sending crews to where they believe the outage originated.

    Six substations were affected.

Phaedra Laushance, of Arden, went to Walmart, but it was closed because of power outages.

"I just came in for a couple of things to cook dinner with. We walked up to the door, and it was completely shut down," Laushance said.
