Asheville hosts group from sister city in Mexico
Asheville is hosting a delegation from one of its sister cities in Mexico.
The mayor of Valladolid and others greeted their hosts with a song at a meeting on Friday.
Mayor Esther Manheimer and other city officials met with the delegation to reaffirm the sister city partnership.
While they're in town, the group is getting a first-hand look at city government, the local economy, and schools.
"We're really looking to develop partnerships, programs and projects that are mutually beneficial for both communities," Karon Korp, of Asheville Sister Cities, said.
There are also two exchange students from Valladolid attending Asheville High School this year.
Asheville has a total of seven sister cities, including Vladikavkaz, Russia; San Cristobal, Mexico; Samur, France; Karpenisi, Greece; Osogbo, Nigeria; and Dunkeld-Birnam, Scotland.
