Asheville man treasures photo of him as a boy meeting the Rev. Graham
An Asheville man treasures a photo from more than 20 years ago that shows him meeting the Rev. Billy Graham.
Brent Carter, 34, said he remembers that day in 1996 like it was yesterday.
The picture shows Carter, in the blue shirt and tie, reaching out to shake Graham's hand.
He and several other students at Reynolds Middle School did a project about Graham's life. When Graham heard about it, the students were invited to the Interstate 240 dedication ceremony for the Billy Graham Freeway, where the photo was taken.
Carter proudly showed the photo to his sons.
"It was something to be able to hand it to them to show them, 'Hey, look what I got to do when I was young and I actually got to meet him, study his life, study what he was all about.' So, it was neat to be able to do that," Carter said.
