An Asheville racing legend is showing signs of improvement after being seriously injured in a car crash earlier this month.

Jack Ingram's daughter, Ingrid Jones, said her 80-year-old father appears to be making daily progress after sustaining broken ribs, a puncture wound and a concussion when he crashed into a vehicle on Amboy Road near the site of the old Asheville Motor Speedway that helped make him a NASCAR hall of famer.

Jones said her dad's in an acute care facility, where he's shown flashes of the big personality he's known for.

"He loves to talk about the Panthers or politics still, so that's my dad. He's still in there, but he's just more slow than usual. But we're moving in the right direction," she said.

Jones said her dad, who turns 81 next week, still makes his signature jokes and loves seeing his grandchildren.
