Asheville YWCA celebrates 110 years
The YWCA on Thursday night celebrated 110 years in Asheville.
Members celebrated for two hours with a reception and showcase.
They talked about efforts to save and improve historic YWCA photographs and make them easier for the public to see. Others shared historical African-American interviews done with YWCA members.
"I think it's really special for an organization to be around for 110 years," YWCA of Asheville CEO Beth Maczka said. "And the mission of the YWCA has been strong throughout. So, we've always been focused on women's economic empowerment, access to childcare and advocacy. And we've done that work since the very beginning."
