Asheville's 12 Bones opens at a smokin' new spot

Asheville's iconic 12 Bones Smokehouse opened Monday at its new location on Foundy Street next to Wedge Brewing Co.

The Riverside Drive building it once occupied is being torn down to make way for the River Arts District Transportation Improvement Project.

Some famous admirers, including former president Barack Obama, enjoyed barbecue at the former location.

"Especially the combination with Wedge, and the fact that there will be a shared courtyard. There's a lot more space. What we need to do is make sure to let Obama to get down here so he can see it," Pete Williams, of Asheville, said.

Customers will have plenty of room in the 4,500-square-foot building, which is about four times bigger than than its former building.
