ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) -- Downtown Asheville's newest hotel had its official ribbon cutting Thursday.
McKibbon Hospitality celebrated the opening of AC Hotel on Broadway. The hotel actually opened for business a few days ago.
Owner John McKibbon touted the hotel's food and beverage program, rooftop bar and local art. McKibbon said the hotel offers employees a chance to move up the socio-economic ladder.
"It's a lot of ways for people to get into an industry and start at one position and work their way all the way through to a much higher paying position," the McKibbon Hospitality chairman said. "As a matter of fact, the president of our company started as a houseman at one of our hotels about 25 years ago."
City leaders have praised McKibbon for agreeing to pay employees a living wage, donating to the city's affordable housing fund and agreeing to work on sidewalks near the BBB&T building, which he's also redeveloping.
