Asheville's own 'Hidden Figure' returns for Asheville School event
Asheville School is recognizing it's 50th year of integration with a series of events and guest speakers.
NASA pioneer Christine Darden has spent the past couple of days there, talking to students and community members about her experiences.
Darden is part of the second generation of women profiled in the movie "Hidden Figures. "
The movie showed the pivotal roles of black women at NASA, and how they helped launch astronaut John Glenn into orbit.
She also has ties to Asheville, having gone to Allen High School, which was a private school for black girls.
"I really think that I got some excellent training, and developed some very good habits while I was at that school that probably served me the rest of my life," Darden said.
Tune into News 13 this morning on Sunday, when Justin Hinton will have much more with the NASA pioneer, including the instrumental role she's played when it comes to airplanes.
