An NC state trooper has identified the person killed in a Waynesville hit and run as Chris Franklin.

Trooper Rico Stephens also says there was a witness who was able to provide a limited description of the suspect's pickup truck.

Troopers are looking for a maroon truck with front-end damage.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is searching for the driver of a maroon truck involved in a deadly hit-and-run crash Monday night in Haywood County.

Stephens said the truck was traveling east on U.S. Highway 19 towards Lake Junaluska. Stephens said the witness described the pick-up as red or burgundy.

Troopers arrived and found Chris Franklin in the road.

Stephens said investigators think the truck likely has some front-end damage from the impact.

Franklin was found on the eastbound side and far right lane of U.S.-Highway 19, also known as Dellwood Road. The crash happened around 9:20 p.m. and closed Dellwood Road for a time.
