Back open: Cornerstone Restaurant in East Asheville
After a months-long renovation during which local fans feared the eatery had closed, East Asheville's Cornerstone Restaurant is back in business.
"We're back and we're ready," said owner Dean Barlas, adding that he had missed serving the restaurant's many fans.
The restaurant officially reopened on September 25, 2017.
After about two decades in business, the popular local eatery had shut down this summer--but just for a remodel and refreshed menu, not forever.
Barlas told us in July that the restaurant isn't going anywhere.
"We've been open for about 20 years now, so it was time for a change and a little bit of a remodel," Barlas said. "But we still want to stay Cornerstone Restaurant. And, you know, it's been 20 years now, so it's time for an update. And we're really excited, and I think everybody here's going to really like what we've done."
Barlas said he enlisted local craftspeople and vendors to create a rustic but modern look-- and there will still be lots of stonework at the Cornerstone.
The new Cornerstone has an updated logo, updated sign, an updated interior and a menu with some new items (we are happy to say the gyro platter survived the cut). Check out the new menu here.
There's also a full bar now, too.
Barlas said the restaurant will still strive to provide simple food for regular people at good prices, and with great service.
The Cornerstone Restaurant is open at 102 Tunnel Road.
