ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A few years ago one summer, a mother and daughter were looking for a place in South Asheville to enjoy a slice of scratch-made blueberry pie and a cup of coffee.
When the two weren't able to find what they were looking for, the idea for the Baked Pie Company was born.
The store is now open in the old Subway location at 4 Long Shoals Road in Arden, near the intersection with Hendersonville Road.
A rotating pie menu currently includes honey pecan, oatmeal, blueberry muffin, sugar crack, pecan cheesecake, chocolate chip cookie, lemon meringue, shoofly, chocolate cream, chocolate peanut butter, apple crumb, cranberry cobbler, lemon chess, chocolate pecan and Hawaiian pineapple.
The bakery also serves "pie flights":
Co-owner Kirsten Fuchs says the pie flights have taken off "like gangbusters." They're three slim slices served with a scoop of ice cream.
Fuchs says they're a great way to try three different kinds of pie. Everyone loves beer flights in Asheville, she observes, and thinks pie flights are the next sampling trend.
The Baked Pie Company is closed Monday. Hours are Tuesday through Thursday 10 a.m- 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. - 9 p.m., and Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
