A woman was airlifted with potentially life-threatening injuries after a bicycle wreck Thursday afternoon in Transylvania County.

Little River firefighters said the woman appeared to have slid on gravel after riding fast down a hill before crashing into a ditch on Blantyre Church Road about 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters said the woman was conscious when they found her. They said they took extra precautions after finding her with an apparent back injury.

"She was complaining with back pain, and, of course, she had some cuts and bruises, as well. But, due to her condition we elected to go ahead and fly her to Mission Hospital," Mark Parker, assistant chief of Little River Fire Department, said.

Firefighters said another woman who was riding a bicycle with her was not involved in the wreck.
