WLOS — ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- We have an update to our profile of a blind marathon runner from Hendersonville.
This past weekend, Mike Merino ran the Asheville Marathon at Biltmore Estate in four hours and 55 minutes.
That qualifies him for the Boston Marathon. Merino was the first visually-impaired runner at the Biltmore event.
For such races, he is tethered to a guide to keep him safe.
Merino also ran in the Boston Marathon back in 2013 and finished just minutes before the bombing that killed three and injured hundreds of others.
