ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — Asheville police have identified a woman who died in a motorcycle accident Friday afternoon along Interstate 240.
In a tweet, police say the passenger on the motorcycle 55-year-old Theoroda Sikora of Alma, Michigan, was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene.
The driver was taken to Mission Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The crash involving a vehicle and motorcycle happened on I-240 eastbound, between "malfunction junction" in the Hominy Creek Bridge area and Mile Marker 1.
Police confirmed that one person died and another was transported with serious injuries.
The wreck temporarily shut down the eastbound lanes of I-240. The scene has since cleared and the interstate reopened.
Asheville police say the investigation is ongoing.
