WLOS — ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Three people are in the hospital after a shooting early Saturday morning in the parking lot of Fat Cats Billiards on Hendersonville Road.
Police tell News 13 that an officer was driving by the billiards hall just after 1 o'clock Saturday morning when he saw the gunfight in progress.
He was able to detain some of the people and likely kept the situation from becoming more serious, according to an APD lieutenant.
Those people are being interviewed, but no one has been arrested in this incident.
One person was shot in the neck and two others were shot in the leg, police said. All three were in stable condition and expected to recover from their injuries.
Those victims will not be identified until police can notify their relatives.
At least eight people were involved in the incident, which started as an argument. Police say the three people injured were involved in the initial altercation, but did not yet know whether they were part of the gunfight.
Police recovered one handgun from the scene, but based on witness accounts theybelieve there may be at least one more gun and one more shooter involved.
One person police think was involved in the incident got away. They used a dog to track them down, but that search came up empty and stopped around Airport Road near Wellington Mobile Home Park.
They describe the missing suspect as a black male, medium build, possibly wearing a red shirt.
They are interviewing witnesses to get a better description of the man.
Police will continue investigating vehicles with search warrants to recover more evidence.
