Buncombe County businesses list parking, housing, permitting among top concerns
A Business Walk survey of Buncombe County businesses revealed that parking, along with housing and permitting, remains a concern for Asheville area businesses.
Volunteers went door to door in January, talking to managers and owners about how their businesses were doing. The volunteers also asked about major concerns and things they think could be done better.
The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce organized the survey to gauge the community’s business environment.
About 90 percent of businesses said they are growing or maintaining. The most pressing issues mentioned were were infrastructure needs.
"We saw our major infrastructure needs continue to be parking, housing, as well as permitting and finding qualified personnel. People were interested in lowering operating costs and finding better ways to market," the chamber's Corey Atkins said.
The chamber hopes to use the survey to develop polices aimed at addressing those concerns.
