Buncombe County continues its search for a county manager
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
After hours of deliberation, Buncombe commissioners did not name an interim county manager.
Commissioners were expected to appoint an interim manager Wednesday after Mandy Stone announced her retirement Friday.
This will be the county’s third county manager in just more than a year.
“The commission has had some very good deliberation this afternoon about the interim county manager position,” Buncombe County Commission Chairman Brownie Newman said as the board wrapped up a nearly three-hour closed session. “But we are not quite through with the process yet."
Newman said the board hopes to announce an interim manager in the next few days.
Once board members choose an interim manager, Newman said they will begin the lengthy process of choosing a permanent county manager. He expects that will take about six months.
He said the search process will include community input.
"I believe the commission wants to put in place a well-qualified professional interim manager who would not be a candidate for the full manager position," Newman said.
