A daycare worker at a Burke County elementary school is accused of punching a 9-year-old in the face.
Jeffrey Hyler is part of an after-school program at Icard Elementary School. He said he and other students were told to pull weeds from a flower bed. Hyler said when some of the weeds ended up next to a daycare worker the employee threatened him.
"He said throw another one and he'll hit me. And I said 'you can't hit us.' And he said, 'come here' and he hit me," Hyler said.
Crawford Ellis is charged with misdemeanor assault of a child under the age of 12. The school said he worked part-time as an after-school daycare worker for the last 12 years. He has since been fired.
