Camp ranger killed in ATV wreck at Camp Daniel Boone in Canton

A Haywood County Sheriff's Office representative says a camp ranger was killed in Monday in an ATV wreck.

On Monday, April 23, 2018 at approximately 11 a.m., the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies responded to a call regarding a one-person ATV wreck at Camp Daniel Boone in Canton.

Upon arrival, responders discovered Camp Daniel Boone ranger Michael Nelson, 57, had been killed in the wreck.

The Daniel Boone Council of the Boy Scouts of America shared this statement with News 13 about the tragedy:

This is an extremely difficult time for our Scouting family. We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our rangers for Camp Daniel Boone. We offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. Please join us in keeping them in your thoughts, and we will support them in any way we that we can.

A camp representative tells News 13 that the Haywood County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
