The Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society Animal Rescue Team deployed Tuesday morning for the Outer Banks to help rescue animals in the way of Hurricane Florence.

The team left Cashiers Tuesday morning at 5 a.m. and by 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, they’d already helped the Outer Banks SPCA safely empty their shelter of 75 cats and dogs. The animals are all now safe inland, away from the danger of the storm.

In addition, the crews were able to help relocate 20 kittens to the Safe Haven for Cats in Raleigh and then transfer 34 cats and dogs to Charlotte Mecklenburg Animal Control and Humane Society Charlotte.

The crew returned to Cashiers early Wednesday morning with 21 safe cats and dogs.

Please call the CHHS shelter at (828)743-5752 for questions about adopting these amazing animals.

Officials ask that anyone interested in meeting the pets please give them a couple of days of rest and quite after their journey.
