Crews responding after water main break on Tunnel Road
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) —
Several lanes on Tunnel Road in East Asheville are closed this noon as crews work on a water main break.
The city says it happened Tuesday but crews had trouble getting to the break to get it fixed.
The division maintenance supervisor tells News 13 the frigid temperatures are to blame, and he expects more of these issues as our cold wave continues.
The crews had to close several valves in the area in order to work on the pipe, which did slow or stop service to some in the area.
One nearby restaurant has had a difficult time working with the limited water they currently have.
Joshua Takahashi, Chef at Yoshida Express, "We might not be able to conduct business as fast as we normally could. I’m also worried about the drink machine that’s also hooked up to the water, the water might not mix well enough with the soda to make a good drink."
The supervisor working on the break said they were able to fix the pipe just before 11 a.m. and he expects full service to return to customers soon.
With the freezing cold expected to last for several more days, the supervisor told us he expects these issues to continue and more pipes to freeze.
