The Graham County Sheriff's Office and the State Bureau of Investigation are looking into a deadly shooting in Robbinsville.

Sheriff Danny Millsaps said a 911 call came in from a residence on Long Branch Road about 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.

No charges have filed and authorities are waiting to release the names involved.

Millsaps said when deputies arrived, they found a woman who had fatally shot in the head. He said an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday in Sylva.

The SBI is now heading up the investigation.

Neighbors said there was a flurry of activity, and they're shocked at the news.

“Oh, it was heavy here when it happened, first happened. They were parked over here and over there, too,” Carol Nix said.

One of the victim's relatives had a scanner at home and heard deputies responding to the call.

Essie Carringer said the victim, a distant cousin, was a young woman with children.

“She had two or three, I think,” Carringer said.

It’s an incident Carol Nix might have expected when she lived several years in a big city, but not in a small town.

“No, didn't expect it next door,” she said.
