A convicted felon will not be able to run for Buncombe County sheriff.

The county Board of Elections held an emergency meeting Tuesday night about Michael Morgan, who said he paid the filing fee almost three weeks ago. But Morgan said he was only told yesterday he was ineligible.

Voters decided in 2010 to block felons from running for sheriff.

"I had been quite upfront about it for years. I ran in 2000 and right on up to 2006. So, everybody knew that I was a convicted felon, even back then" Morgan said.

Morgan said he plans to raise money and fight the board's decision.
