Road re-opens, authorities ID man killed in Fletcher wreck in front of Smiley's
The road has re-opened and authorities have identified the man killed Friday morning in a wreck in front of Smiley's Flea Market.
Authorities have identified the man as David Anthony Sapp, 42, of Fletcher.
The wreck closed the road in both directions for nearly six hours.
A NCSHP representative tells News 13 that at approximately 11:22 a.m., troopers were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with a fatality on U.S.-25 at Smiley's Flea Market.
Sapp was traveling north on U.S.-25 and entered into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a Spartanburg Recycling truck driven by Adam Eugen Gordon of Gaffney, SC.
Sapp succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Gordon was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Spartanburg Recycling truck spilled several gallons of fuel onto the roadway as a result of the collision. The NCDOT along with Mountain Environmental responded to clean the fuel spill from the roadway.
The road was closed between Old Brickyard Road and Butler Bridge Road.
