Fletcher police ID man killed in officer-involved shooting at CVS
Police have identified a man officers shot and killed during an incident at a Fletcher pharmacy on Wednesday.
Fletcher's Chief of Police Erik Summey said Wesley Shelton, 33, of Marshall, walked into the CVS on Hendersonville Road just after noon, carrying a handgun.
Summey said when officers arrived on scene, Shelton did not comply with commands and pointed the handgun at them.
That is when four officers fired their weapons, wounding the suspect, Summey said.
Police say officers on scene tried to provide limited first aid on the suspect until EMS and firefighters arrived, who determined the suspect was beyond medical assistance.
No employees or customers were hurt during the incident.
Summey said the SBI will conduct an investigation of the incident and collected all evidence at the scene. He said Fletcher Police Department will also conduct an internal investigation.
The officers involved are now on paid administrative leave as the investigations continue.
The Fletcher CVS remained closed on Thursday. A sign on the door said all prescriptions could be picked up at the Long Shoals Road CVS.
