Former NC congressman Bill Hendon dies at 73

Former North Carolina congressman William Martin Hendon, known as Bill, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills in Forest City, NC after a long illness.

A Republican, Hendon served in the U.S. House representing North Carolina's 11th district from 1981-1983, succeeded by James McClure Clarke; and again in 1985-1987, also succeeded by Clarke.

Hendon was born in Asheville. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie O’Neil and Jennie Porter, and five grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Hendon was 73 years old.
