Election results in Haywood County yield some history. For the first time, there's a Republican majority on the Haywood County Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Republicans Kevin Ensley and Brandon Rogers are now joined by Mark Pless and Tommy Long.

Kirk Kirkpatrick is now the lone Democrat, leaving the Republicans with a 4-1 majority.

Ensley said, no matter the politics, the board will fulfill the business of the county.

“We'll just make sure our that our law enforcement and EMS is adequately funded, that our educational system is ... we're in the top 25 of the state,” he said.

Ensley said some priorities are a remodel of the Waynesville library and repairs to the Justice Center.

Ensley said when the new commission meets next month, he'll likely be tapped as the new chairman because he has seniority on the board.
