Governor Cooper's wife visits Reynolds High School
Governor Roy Cooper's wife Kristin, and one of their daughters, Hilary, spent part of their morning at A.C. Reynolds high school.
They made the visit to observe the "Second Chance Breakfast" program.
Schools across the nation are taking part in this program, that offers a second breakfast to ensure every student gets to eat. The school system's nutrition director says the program has been around five years at A.C. Reynolds High, and it could be expanding in Buncombe County.
Students News 13 spoke with say they would welcome more options.
"I wish we had the biscuits like she said. More fruit," said Shaqwan Jones, a Reynolds senior. "They're talking about putting in strawberries and stuff like that, so it's going to be nice."
The governor's wife says children's issues and childhood poverty are part of her platform, so she appreciates seeing how programs like these can help.
Kristin Cooper also talked with several students about the program and what they would like to see added.
