8 people plead guilty in separate cases involving illegal drugs, district attorney announces

The Office of District Attorney Ashley Hornsby Welch announced in September 2023 that eight people all pleaded guilty in separate cases involving either trafficking or possessing illegal drugs in August 2023. Those who pleaded guilty have been identified as the following (top left to right) Robin Morris Baldwin, Michael Shawn Brown, Chuck Bryson, Cassarah Ensley (bottom left to right) Hunter Goodson, Teresa Spencer, Baron Houston Sutton, John Williamson.

Robin Morris Baldwin Jr., 41, of Swannanoa, was arrested Dec. 1, 2022, at Exit 105 west on I-40 near Clyde. Officials say{ }Baldwin pleaded guilty to possess methamphetamine and habitual felon in August 2023. He received 30 to 48 months in prison. Michael Shawn Brown, 32, of Asheville, was arrested Jan. 31, 2023, at Exit 33 on I-40 after Deputy Hayden Green pulled a vehicle over for traffic violations. Officials say{ }Brown pleaded guilty to trafficking opiates in August 2023.
