Haywood County man remembers working with Burt Reynolds
A man from the mountains acted with Burt Reynolds in the movie "Deliverance."
Herbert "Cowboy" Coward, who lives in Haywood County, has one of the most recognizable lines from the movie.
Coward, who was famous for his "purdy mouth" line, worked at Ghost Town with Reynolds and said that's how he got a part in the movie as one of the villains.
Coward just saw Reynolds around three weeks ago at Bubbafest in Pigeon Forge.
Reynolds died Thursday in Florida.
"It hurt me because he was a real good friend, and it hurt me bad when they called me and told me he passed away," Coward said.
Reynolds had more local ties to the mountains. At one point, he and wife Lonnie Anderson had a house in Highlands. Reynolds also directed a play at Flat Rock Playhouse.
