Investigators are trying to determine how a house fire sparked in the Bent Creek area of Buncombe County.

The flames were reported around 1 A.M. Wednesday morning at the home of Mcilwain Road. Skyland Fire Chief Ryan Cole said the call came in as a couch on fire. He said when firefighters responded, flames were through the roof.

The fire chief also said two people live in the home, but only one was there at the time and had minor injuries from trying to save a dog. "The guys did an excellent job knocking this fire down, getting in and putting the fire out. We did have significant damage to the home, but saved about 30 percent of the structure," Chief Cole told our News 13 crew on scene.

Fire officials say the home is a total loss. The Buncombe County Arson Task Force is now investigating the cause of the fire.
