The Asheville Fire Department held a benefit event Friday for one of its own who is battling cancer.

Hundreds of firefighters, first responders, friends and family members showed up at Green Man Brewery, which made a special brew in honor of the father of four.

Will Willis was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer earlier this year.

Members of the firefighting community said they were happy to see then outpouring of support and love for their fellow firefighter.

"It's just amazing to feel the unity, not just within the fire department, but everybody local who's coming together and doing their part. They want to do something," the Asheville Fire Department's Kelly Klope said.

Local businesses donated items to be auctioned for the event. All the proceeds are going to the Willis family.
