I-26 reopens after closing overnight due to wrecks, snow

NCDOT says I-26 near Asheville has reopened after winter weather combined with wrecks had it closed for hours overnight.

The road near Exit 37 (Long Shoals Road) and reopened around 3:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Dispatchers said it is particularly icy around mile marker 31 and DOT crews are putting extra salt down there.

The incident started at 11:06 p.m. on Friday evening as a second round of snow fell across the region.
